Education – ICT

Who would have thought that this person who viewed a quill as good enough for Keats and therefore for himself would get interested in computers?  Sheer curiosity and then a realisation of what they could offer a writer, and by extension those teaching and learning English.  So began a whole career involving writing articles and books, lectures and in-service training.  Here are a few highlights.

Sharing Not Staring  Whiteboard Activities for the English Classroom (incl CD) with Chris Warren. New edition Routledge 2013.

Teaching English Using ICT  A practical guide for secondary teachers.  Continuum 2011 (with Chris Warren and Tom Rank)

Improving Literacy with ICT  Ideas and resources for teaching ages 7-12 Continuum 2011

Some age quickly with the coming of new exam specifications, like this one, even though itself was a ‘new edition’:

Unlocking Poetry: using ICT to investigate GCSE Poetry.  NEW EDITION for new anthologies 2012 in association with Routledge (with Chris Warren). This CD contained all of the pre-1914 poetry in various electronic formats, together with teaching ideas for both pre- and post-1914 poems.  It might still be available from NATE www.nate.org.uk

Oldies but goldies:

20 Things to do with a Word Processor  ICT activities for KS3-4 (with Chris Warren)

Interactive Literacy  Using ICT to advance literacy skills, especially with less able children. pub. Barrington Stoke

In the bottom corner of the picture you can see The Mouse and the Muse, the publication way back in 1991 which started my ICT and English writing career and began my liking for the title!
