The rock houses at Martindale Caves, Kinver Edge, were in use well into the 20th century. Now they have been restored and are managed by the National Trust and can be visited – making a nice contrast to the pomp and glitter of your stately homes!  These dwellings would have been quite sought after by workers from the nearby Black Country.  They were out of the polluted towns and more spacious than the teeming back-to-backs.  One house had its cast iron range burning brightly and a print of ‘After dinner, rerst awhile’ on the wall…
