It’s always a joy to see the wonderful clocks made by John Harrison of Barrow on Humber. Doubly so this time as I was lucky enough to have a guided tour of the Observatoiry at Greenwich with the Senior Horologist, Jonathan Betts and visit the room where the clocks were left uncared for over so many years. It wasn’t until the 1920s that another unsung hero, Rupert Gould, rediscovered them and spent most of the rest of his life restoring them. They keep perfect time and look beautiful.  Earlier I had stopped by St Pancras and paid my respects to a hero who has at least been appreciated by many: John Betjeman, poet, who led the campaign to save the wonderful St Pancras station.
