A Victorian ‘Tudor’ mansion, complete with Jacobean chimneys. Quite a stunner – and the interior is even better.  The owners collected pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts art-works so you never quite know what to expect each time you enter a new room.  Quite a surprise to see the famous ‘Love among the ruins’ painting by Burne-Jones there, together with lots of other lesser known but lovely pieces.  When you’ve had enough of aesthetics, walk down the hill to The Mermaid to satisfy those other desires: nice place for a late lunch.
