Spending more time at home? Of course. Occupying yourself usefully? Well, sometimes. Providing for chutney shortages? Chilli jelly emergencies?  Or simply using those lovely rose petals from last spring. Definitely.

Green tomatoes are an obvious candidate for chutney – but gooseberries? Usually they get crumbled, tarted or just desserted but this year we had our own plus many more from friends so: a welcome addition to the preserves.

Chilli jelly is an all year round favourite and apples are a great base for it. Similarly with redcurrants, which aren’t always easy to use in abundance. Looks good and tastes good.
